I have been relatively lucky with my small flock, but my recent prolapse scare had me wondering where all the chicken specialists are?! It seems that most vets are not comfortable with chickens and we are left to our own devices (making me contemplate going back to school to become a vet myself!)

Anyone in California have a vet they like and trust with their flock?! I found one that atleast saved my Cochin for now, but I could still tell her knowledge was limited (she's in Half moon bay, south of SF and is still my go-to) However, if the prolapse gets worse or complications arise, I'd hate to keep doing things that are uncertain at best.

I've gone from culling to full hysterectomy as options for my Cochins prolapse, so obviously I'd feel better if I had a vet that could handle even full surgery if needed!

Come on California, I thought chickens were main stream by now!

Thanks for any input,

Claire and her flock

Oh awesome! I used to live down on the Santa Cruz Mountains, and that makes sense that there are more in that direction since it's a little rural. I'll definitely look into them!
Dr. Thomas and Dr. Wells are the best, IMO, and quite affordable compared to other vets. They have always been able to squeeze me on the day I call.

Dr. Stern saw some of my turkey poults when she worked at a place in Cupertino and I was quite happy with her and would see her again.

@eyralis is correct, most avian vets in my area refer to that facility.
I'm not near you, but my vet refers to Medical Center for Birds in Oakley for surgery. Ive been to the Oakley facility once before I found my current vet in Pleasanton. Its way out there geographically.
Ive also heard of one Avian vet in Castro Valley and one in Brentwood, but not a facility better than the Oakley one.
