Wondering who else is trying to make Satsumadori.

Have an idea of what is like to use in the breedings looking to converse with a pro on orientals.

Wondering if anyone is using the same type of fowl in their process ?

For those who don't know satsumadori are a type of long tailed fowl, with a body.some what similar to a shamo.

It's status is rare world wide.
Look up this rare beeeds, its truely a amazing fowl in the poultry world.

I have been "fiddling" with trying to get the flared tail appearance. Took this photo today of one of my 2014 hatched birds. He also has the yellow legs and comb type I want to maintain. It is a fun project - don't know where it might take me.

William Bender, aka Shamoman, of Eastern PA, has some Satsumadori project/remake birds well underway. He sold hatching eggs and adult birds from them this spring. I think a guy in Texas has some from that line/project. I would not try to start from scratch since someone else has them fairly far along, contact some people and see if you can get some. Mr. Bender has a website with contact info, if you google satsumadori, you can find the other person who has them, sorry, once again, I can't just link you where you need to go. If I was going to make them, I would use Off type cubalayas with too high of tails, but reallly good spread, shamo or thai with nicely spread tails, and yokohamas to gain the longer feather in certain areas. It could be done other ways, of course. There is no real Satsumadori blood in the USA, just remakes.

No pure ones yet it seems I need to save a heck of a lot of pennies to do so, thinking of selling a car and a quad to try but think the wife would kill me, I have a few birds yet, some red shouldered yokohama large fowl, black, blue mottled, spangled and jubilee yokohama bantams, black Sumatra large and bantam, lots of crosses from asils to shamos and yokohmas and phoenix for project birds here is a few pics of the nicest tailed young male

This bird is part of a breeding project that I have going right now. I’m not actually trying to make Satsumadori…I just want a small molar body and tail for my project birds.

Awesome birds. There are none in the U.S. I am guessing? Would the cost be unreal in order for you to import say, hatching eggs, from Japan? I wonder if you could work with some military folks interested in fowl in order to bring some back to the U.S. Hatching eggs flown on a Space A flight could be a real possibility!

There is said to be only 1 if not 2 people with them in the us.
But are said to be already crossed.

I have spoke to friends about getting some from Japan, Germany, or the UK but yeah they are down right expensive for the birds alone. since they are so rare and magnificent, not even including shipping and quarentene fees.

It just hit me why not make some, have an idea of where to get started, thinks its awesome, just need to contact a few breeders, and genetic pros first. I am reading there are others starting the project of recreating some and wanting their input on what I've come up with sofar.
