Pics

Took a pallet.
Cut in half (well, I left a little more on one side for the bottom shelf)
Scrap wood to raise the pallet halves
Plywood sides and back
plywood dividers

Bottom has doublewide nesting boxes, tops are only about 11" wide (total of 6 nesting boxes)

I picked up some damaged wooden crates from Home Depot (50 % off) and did some minor alterations. Then I added some dish pans (Wal-Mart) to them for easy cleaning. My plan is to add some plywood to the back of them for added support and a point of attachment to the inside of the coop.

we have the same crates but no dishpans, just straw. good idea tho

scrap salvaged wood a few screws and two hinges;)

A preview of my nest box. The rest of the pics and write-up will be on my coop page once I get around to doing one.

I wanted lift supports so my little one (3 y/o) could easily open the heavy shingled roof, and so it wouldn't slam down on her head or fingers if she let go while looking inside. Picked this pair of hydraulic lifters up on Amazon for 10 bucks and with careful adjustment I got it set up so it's just enough power to lift it all the way up from just above the horizontal position and then hold it open. It also keeps it from slamming down hard.
