Hi everyone. I have been raising backyard chickens since 2009. Last year after losing the last of our girls, we decided that we would try raising silkies. I bought what was supposed to be a sexed run ( now I know determining silkie sex is very difficult) of beautiful silkies. To our surprise 4 were roosters. We have raised them and handled them daily. I did have a gentleman who does shows say he would take them but it’s a 6 hour drive one way for me and he missed 2 meets. So I gave up on that and decided to keep them until now. Yes it is and I did. The problem was one of them was able to get the collar around it’s beak. Broke the beak. I nursed him back over the course of 2 weeks.
