I'm thinking about adding some Silver Spangled Hamburgs to my flock this spring. The pictures of them are beautiful but I know nothing about them. I would appreciate some opinions on their personalities and longevity. My poultry all free ranges thru the day and they are confined at night. We do get some mighty cold weather in the winter.....

They do tend to be flighty. Good layers of med to large white eggs. Less likely to suffer frostbite with their rose combs. Nonbroody. Live normal lifespans 8-12 years.

Hamburgs are fantastic. At least the ones I've been around.

They are small and thrifty.

I don't like to use the term "flighty", but it does work in this case. Good instincts.

It sounds like they would be a good addition to my flock. I've been trying to go to smaller breeds like the Leghorns and Sapphires, but I'd rather not go with bantams.

I try not to male pets of my chickens any more but I do want to be able to handle them if necessary. I hope the flightiness can be tamed to some extent. :hmm
