Sleeping

I'm currently building my coop and was wondering what i need as far as where the birds will sleep. I have 6 RIR's. I'm assuming the nesting box is just for them to lay eggs? And they free range during the day..but should i put like a bar or piece of wood up for them to roost on at night?

Absolutely, a 2x4 laying flat works well just have it higher than the laying boxes or you will find them sleeping in them/poopy eggs.

Ok thanks. And about how high should the nest boxs be? Or how low can they be?

I have mine 14 inches off the floor and the roost/poop board on top, I figured they will still be able to go under and not affect the square footage.
