What a story! It sounds like you are trying your best to give Coach her best possible life. I hope someone can provide more insight for you.

Not only have none of my runner ducks ever imprinted on me, they all spend their lives eyeing me with suspicion, like I'm going to murder them -- even as they take feed from my hand.

Would love to see updates on Coach!

My poor husband has the same problem with our ducks. He is public enemy number one with them. On the one hand I'm horribly amused, on the other i feel so terrible for him because as I type i'm finishing my bagel and coffee and then we're going outside to work on the very large duck house for them. He spoils them more than I do.
