Speckled Sussex ?!

Hello! I love this site. Thanks in advance for your input!

I got 6 chicks from a local farm and should have received two speckled Sussex…. I don’t think the one is, so I’m asking for your thoughts. She’s very red feathered and just a little white on her chest. Picture is her with the other speckled Sussex…. They’re about 5 weeks.

It could be a rir, but I had a Sussex with very little white, it might take some time to grow in.

Thanks for your feedback. I was thinking RIR also…. I guess we’ll see… She has no interest in perching, whereas the other 5 all sleep on the perch. Is this odd? I’ve tried coaxing her like I did the others and she stays for a bit then clumsily flops off.

Maybe she needs some extra vitamins.

They look like my Speckled Sussex (bantam) chicks.

I emailed Sussex breeders and the two that replied said that chick colors don't matter, they'll have their adult colors at 5-7 months.

Oh, good to hear! I hope she is, but if she’s a RIR then that’s ok too. I just paid a pretty penny for the Sussex since I read so much about them being great for family flocks. Plus I’m 83% Brit, so had to add a couple from the old country.

How old are they? They're nice and dark, look closer to standard than my bunch.
