Just need some re-assurance. Read a bit here and think we are ok. I've got 5 pullets, first one started to lay on Saturday
and she has been laying every day since and right where she is supposed to in the nest box. Her sister my other Red Star layed her first egg today, right in the middle of the run.....and it's a weird egg, just doesnt look all pretty like the others. I know off the egg, shape color look etc is normal in the beginning. What about laying in the run? She was all wacky this morning, look up and trying to jump up in the run, I thought it was because she was about to lay and she did. Anyway, so laying in the run, do you think it was just because she was surprised and didnt know what to do?
She will figure it out and will probably start laying where the other birds do - in the nest. You can also put in some fake eggs or golf balls to give her a hint.
