The chicks are staying at the opposite end of the brooder from the light. I need to use incrementally smaller light bulbs, but cannot find incandescent bulbs anywhere. I am wondering how others are stepping down brooder heat without incandescent light bulbs. Any ideas?

x2 all of Ridgerunner's questions.

What is the wattage of the current bulb? Reptile bulbs come in lower wattages than the standard heat bulb.

Moving the lamp further away will also reduce temperature, or using a dimmer if the bulb is compatible with it.

Our ceramic reptile bulb is 150w and really worked well. Before chicks arrived had the temp at 95 hanging from a dog chain. Reducing the temp was easy by shortening the chain in 2-4 links. First time using a ceramic bulb so the chicks had a sense of day light and night. Very pleased with this new set up. Never used incandescent bulbs, red heat bulbs prior to reptile bulbs.
