I placed a rubber pet food place mat with raised edges to contain the chick crumble mess and cut down on wasted feed. Works great and washes in a flash with the hose!
These are my new babies I got after the massacre the other day. The yellow chick, Crystal, was the sole survivor.

For less waste, I use an oatmeal cannister, cut 2-3 holes near bottom, then use a toilet-paper tube cut short, and a hole on the bottom side. They stick their head in, and feed fills from bottom.

It's basically this with an oatmeal cannister and toilet paper tubes instead of pipe.

As the tubes are horizontal, you'll need to cut the bottom of the portion inside the cannister out.

Make sure you have more than one to choose from with that many chicks.

Pretty much anything can be made from trash for babies, once they are bigger you'd need sturdier materials.
