Stopping a hen from being broody with cage confinment???

My hen went broody and I can't have her hatch anymore eggs. So I hung a dog crate/cage and put her in it to get her to not be broody anymore. I read somewhere that your supposed to give them just water and no feed when you do this. Is that true???
