Strange wet spot in the nesting box...no shell or and membrane?

With the help of my chicken guard dog Mister Martin, I screwed the turf pieces into the bottom and front of each insert

I then finished the inserts by nailing in the top piece for the forward compartment. I cut a 2x4 to a 3 inch length and placed it at the back of the nesting box to put the rollaway inserts at a slight pitch forward.

The eggs then roll to the front and you are able to take the whole insert out to collect the eggs or clean as needed.

I hope this helps anyone who is looking to modify their boxes on the cheap. The total cost was around $35 + around 2-3 hours to cut and assemble.

@AlaskaGrown - thanks so much for the pics and explanations - great job, and a much "quicker fix" than building a whole set of new rollout nest boxes! Looks efficient and much more cost friendly, as well. I believe I spent around $80 for a 2-holer rollout nest box, including screws & pad & everything. Thanks for posting!
