Sussex rooster infertility issues

The use of maldison50/malathion on a regular basis can interfere with fertility and is banned in the European Union, especially Switzerland and Germany due to its cancerogenic effects.
Is is known to accumulate in tissue.

After reading some hours about the effects, I think it might well be the cause of his infertility.

I am still searching for the discussion had about exactly this topic at a different poultry site several years ago.
I will post a link as soon as I find it.

Chili flakes or Capsicum have no worming capability whatsoever, it's a wives tale.
You need a real wormer if you want to worm. :]
Really? I find after a dose of ground cayenne pepper on (new birds who had worms) after a week they had nothing. (Fecal sampling done at vets) on our show birds and they don't have them either. Maybe we are just lucky 🤷

I would deworm him properly using Safeguard, Valbazen or similar to make sure no worms are interfering with his fertility.

Older roosters need more vitamin E to fertilize eggs, so adding some to his diet could help as well as some brewers yeast.

Stress from exhibitions will also take a toll on a bird. How long ago was the last one?

I would get the other rooster as well to broaden the genetic pool.
Okay I will give him a safeguard tablet, he did not have decal sampling done this year so it can't hurt.
The last show was in July about 4 weeks ago.
I'll look it up it might be worth adding in, thankyou for sharing your knowledge.

That is interesting!
Yea tbh they had about 3 doses of it in the space of 18 weeks as we *thought* it was the right thing to do. All the older poultry show exhibitors recommended and swear by it.
We never did the dose they recommend on the label though that's insane how is it so much less for a horse... anyways 🙄 lesson learnt
Heard yesterday I can use a few drops of the alcohol based ivermectin for lice and mite control instead. So will be doing that in the future, it won't help our boy but hopefully it will help our next one.

We ended up getting another roo, but, he is only 4 months old and can't say I'm overly impressed with him yet. Will have to patiently grow him out before we use him or he could send our flock backwards.

Provided they are all healthy and of a robust nature, the best offspring does not necessarily result from pairing two champions, but from pairing birds that complement each other or compensate the other's flaws/weaknesses.
At least that has been my experience in 20+ years of breeding to the SOP, for robustness and egg production.

I hope he will turn out to be a good substitute.

...trim his behind as well. Too much fluff can get in the way and prevent their cloaca from proper contact.

Woohoo!!! Do you see it!
So it was just his butt was too fluffy 🤣
