We use single action Colt .45 revolvers with black powder blanks. So no projectiles. The hot embers from the powder pop the balloons.

I figured the targets were on one side of the stand and people on the opposite....dang, I feel insensitive because all I could think about was how hard it must be to hit your target while on a horse!
