Texas

Hello I am new to this forum but have kept chickens for more than 5 years. You might say I've returned to my roots! We lived on a small farm until I was 5 and had chickens then. My first "cooking" involved swiping eggs from the coop to put in my mud pies, that is until a latch was put on the coop! We live in Dallas on 3 acres and have what amounts to a small petting zoo - 10 hens, a duck, a goat, 4 dogs, 4 cats, and wild yard bunnies!

LOL! Our world revolves around the weather forecast and when we can mow. We got two inches Friday night into Saturday in Blue Ridge. Soaked my quail feeder in the aviary. I'll need to figure out something so I don't waste food every time it rains!
Best thing I did for some of my pens was to start using a Peck-O-Matic feeder. Less spill mess and keeps the food nice and dry inside a 5 gallon bucket. They're not cheap but they pay for themselves if you wind up losing a good bit of feed due to either the birds scooping it out or to rain.

We have lived here almost 7 years. We are now having to deal with grackles. They cleaned out my fig tree. They are running off my songbirds and terrorizing my cat. Joey (cat) could deal with the mockingbirds, but these grackles are ruthless! Any ideas on how to get rid of them?
Sounds like it's time for fried grackle.

Hi! How the heck did you find three acres in Dallas? I want a donkey but the ordinance in Carrollton prohibits it.
