No it was a personal pet from a single individual(dachshund). Not an Army trained animal. I can just tell you it was horrid meeting a bird or rabbit freakishly so. That pup could kill stuff in under 1 second.Very much Austin county I thought you were referring to the German Shepard before that last bit! She’s the crazy one. All mouth, all teeth. Not aggressive but so strong and big when she jumps she terrifies people. Even ‘dog people’. Got about another year before she grows out of this hyper mouthy puppy phase too. I’ve heard various horror stories about vicious dachshunds but I really can’t say I’ve ever had any experiences like that with miniature smooth solid colored dachshunds in particular. I get specific not to be a snob but actually for this very reason. It’s known amongst dachshund lovers that different variations within the breed have behavioral variances too, call em quirks. Differences between mini and standard, wire, smooth & long haired, dilute, dapple, piebald...even more interesting is what in the world was the army doing with a dachshund? Scent hound?
Our Mallinios is a freaky scary thing as well. Destroys about 1 Frisbee per week and can for sure fit my appendages into its mouth. I upset him last week by winning the tug toy and got remeasured for bite size. Luckily we will never be on the wrong side of that bite, but for sure I do recommend a German Shepherd over them for ease of training. They are lighter(70-75#) than my last 90 pound GSD, but explosive accelerational power makes for a slight difference. That is why frisbee is the only game worth playing to the dog. Ours can't be bothered with any Kong products like balls and whatnot it has to be frisbee. We never throw frisbees to him he runs them down. The mental calculations that go on in that dogs head are pretty impressive chasing a frisbee if it is going to hit a tree branch he is doing the mental math on it. DW just bought a new frisbee today at Wallyworld. Certainly I see why the Mallinois are favored by the military as they can pretty much hit any moving target, but they take so much work to train and run. Currently we run him 8 or so times daily in 10 to 15 minute sessions. He for sure is not an easy dog to keep.
Not denigrating GSD I would much rather have one, but I am stuck with this guy for the next 10 years.
To finish this out we just wanted him off the neighbors chain out setups. That is why he is ours now. That and barking 24x7. We never wanted a Mallinois but our neighbors were not capable of keeping one. Also down here $100 buys you a lot it got me a dog and a happy wifeSure it was an additional 300 in vet fees but that is any dog.
