So true lol cant miss anything while our noses are presses against the window.

I may or may not have ordered an acrylic door for my hatcher to replace the one with the window.

Eggcited!! Looks like I will be able to set some Easter Eggers for the Easter hatch a long

First blue egg from the ladies I got back in October/November.
They laid the first week, then just stopped.
I put them in with my RIR, and today...

I'm leaving the 4 black hens in with the RIRs, so this time will have EEs, After I set those, I will try to get them their own section with their blue rooster.

I love blue eggs!

Oh my goodness!! How awful. :/ Here, this should bring a smile on your face. Not sure you will win a sign, but you deserve to win something!

My Bubba's babies. Bantams..silkie mix..and RIR's.

This is my favorite bantam mix. Has eye liner..below...

So adorable! I can't wait for my mix chicks to hatch!

Test batch due 25th

Awesome incubator! I love the quail eggs!

And good morning!!

After a two hour outage, the power came on last night shortly after I posted. I went and checked on the chicks, they were as energetic as ever. My incubator temp was only down to 86 which is fine. I was happy to see the brinsea held the temp so well. Gawd I LOVE THAT INCUBATOR. I have had it two years, and it really has never let me down!!
I do sometimes have issues with the humidity pump, I think the cord or the actual plug in to the bator is touchy, but after the power came on it started running right away.

Yeah, the power didn't go out here, but the temperature swings are killer. The poor month old banties are walking around all stiff in the cold and my eggs were too cold yesterday and over-heated today. But I've found eggs and chicks to be really hardy so I can keep hoping!

I'm glad everything worked out for you.

Gonna try some pekin ducks and maran/brahma mix eggs. If the ducks keep laying that is

Cool mix! I love Brahmas and Marans.

FLUFFY BUTT IS BORN!!!

At least 2 more pips. My daughter has named the chick Fluffy Butt

Whew ! Finally caught up ! Been out since Sunday. Ended up in the hospital Sunday night with appendicitis, yuck. Felt terrible. They took it out and repaired my herniated navel and let me come home last night. My belly button hurts like crazy, especially when i cough (smoker here). BUT i'm home, on the mend, and back on BYC trying to win a sign. But don't tell LocalYokel. I bet he thinks i gave up.

Thank you. With all the coughing i'm doing i may end up rupturing the darn thing.

So sorry to hear that, I hope you start feeling better soon. We'll be praying for you.

The coturnix when hand raised are lovely sweet birds. I have one of those animal playpens that when I clean their cages I put them in. I put the birds in a bucket and they know they are going out on the grass for a while. No trying to fly out or anything. People always told me they were skittish and could start up and even break their own necks on a too tall cage top but I haven't had that problem with mine.
Quail are awesome. I think people should keep them instead of parrots. They are friendly, cheap, and they can't bite your finger off. Lol.

So last night I went to lock up the girls for the night. And couldn't find one of my rose comb leghorns. My chickens free range so I started searching could find her. Went back to the coop to do another head count and found her in a nesting box. She always goes on the roost to sleep so I said interesting. I looked her over with a flashlight she seemed fine so I locked up and went inside. This mourning she was still in there and it was 28f last night. So I'm thinking hope she's ok. I let the girls out and go to check on her. Well she is standing a little turning eggs with her beak. Then I got closer she started clucking loudly at me. So I backed off then she jumped out of the nest and took off. I haven't seen her get back on the eggs yet. This was about 30 min ago. So I don't know if I disturbed her and she gave up or what. I've never had a broody hen before so I don't know when I decide to take the eggs in and say she has givin up. And if she has givin up are the eggs good to eat after she was sitting on them all night. Any advice would be great thanks gals and guys.

She might be thinking about being broody or she might have just been being a protective hen on a nest. When its cold hens like to sit on nests for a night. I did have a broody leghorn, but sometimes they break-up. If she was only on the eggs a day they likely didn't develop very much if at all so you could save them if you want by putting them inside and putting some fake eggs or fresh eggs in the nest to see if she'll return to it, then returning her eggs to her once she's settled.

I hatched and raised some and they were the most sweet little things. Wish I could have kept them but unfortunately the dog did not like them. She managed to kill one of them by dragging it through the wire on the run. She did everything in her powers to get at them, even trying to dig concrete up when I moved them after that one was killed. In the end I rehomed them as the dog was in state over them. Yet she has never bothered the chickens or even chicks, I'm thinking they smelt more like game and she saw them as a nice snack.

I'm sorry to hear that. Dogs do love to chase small things that run or fly. Our dog is a Aussie Shepherd mix and likes to herd our birds!

Thanks so much

How are you feeling today? Third day is usually the worst. Hope you are taking it easy .. third day or not..can't remember when you had this done, but I remember mine was tough ..yrs and yrs. ago. I did do the walking like suggested, down the block and back. Every day until I was healed. Slooooowly down the block and back.
