We recently hatched our first two chicks (dad is a silkie and mum is a leghornx). Would love some opinions on the gender of peanut (6weeks - brown) and butter (5weeks-white).

Thanks !

Do you have photos of the parents? I'm curious what colors they are.

Certain combinations of parent colors can produce sexlink chicks (males of one color, females of another), so I'm wondering whether your rooster and hen happen to have the right colors for this.

Pretty chickens :)

Yes, that pair should produce sexlink chicks:
sons in silver (like the cockerel)
daughters in gold (like the pullet)

I think that pair could also produce chicks where the black is replaced by white, which would mean some sons could be all white and some daughters would have gold with white, but they should still be color-sexable.

How interesting!!! Thank you! I thought the whiter chick might be a rooster with the reddening comb but was holding hope (mum was identified as a rooster too when she was a chick but ended up being a hen)
