The chicks hatched in the incubator - what do I do?

Yes still chirping. It's coming to the end of the day here so took the (newbie) decision to carefully remove sections of the shell. Took the egg out and using blunt tweezers under a brood lamp gently removed half off the shell and put the egg back in.

There was much wriggling for a good 30 minutes, a section of the membrane was broken but the rest of the membrane was too dry. So .... the egg came back out and under the brooder lamp. A small section of the other end of the membrane was carefully removed and the egg returned to the incubator.

We watched. 20 minutes later the chick hatched

She did the same to one other egg that had pipped this morning but failed to emerge, however this one showed a spot of blood so it was wrapped in damp warm tissue and put back in. 1 hour later it's still chirping and wriggling to get out. We'll be leaving that one alone.

The humidity in the incubator had been way to low on days 19 and 20. Only today, day 21, was it corrected although very haphazardly (using mist sprays and small amounts of very hot water in the tank to create a sauna effect, but this affected the temps so had to keep a very close eye on incubator. Not recommended method at all).

Its been a HUGE learning curve today.
