I. So sorry that happen to two of my girls and got ate by a coon and I think another got injured and I didn't notice. Sadly I found her dead in the coop and one of my RIRs died before all of them I think she had a egg stuck. We brought her in the house and tried to relax her and put baby oil on her butt to try to ease the egg out but it didn't work and she wouldn't eat or drink. :cryi had 4 ees, but sadly they all got out of the coop and died. they were all such sweeties.
Medicated is best . Prevents cocci . Cocci will cause a brown or bloody stool . Many people think medicated feed is bad until they have a die off from cocci .
Yes I always use medicated . I really have no set age when I switch . Usually when they get moved to grow out pens .Jerryse, do you, as a standard practice start you newborns on medicated feed? When do you switch to non-medicated?

I learned my lesson about not using medicated feed. I hatched some expensive chicks and it was a bad hatch to begin with but they came down with coccidiosis. Only 3 survived.Jerryse, do you, as a standard practice start you newborns on medicated feed? When do you switch to non-medicated?
