So our surviving hatchie, Aurora/Rori, is a month old now. I'm still really hoping she is a she, but my gut tells me she is a he...& that is the part I hate most 🥴

I also still have Mum & Chick seperated (inside the main yard with their own coop) Mum seems pretty anxious to get back to everyone...but last time we tried to follow her lead the other chick was killed....& now I am too scared to try again 😬

So, any tips there are welcome. The 'killer' hen is no longer broody, & has settled back down again (she stormed around for a few days quiet angry after the killing, especially whenever hearing the surviving chick) I however still do not trust her one bit. Should I try just seperating her for a little while, so Mum & chick can rejoin the others? Even if this chick is a little rooster & I am not able to keep him, I don't want him killed, watching mum & chick has been so beautiful x

I would keep separated and do the "see but no touch "method or make an enclosure that the chick can hide or duck into till it's old enough to fend for herself. Like a tunnel or blocked of wire cage with hole only big enough for her. That's my opinion. I've never had luck integrating at a young age. Must be my flock of bullies=standard breeds vs silkies. I do love how cute your silkies are hope to get some someday.

Soooo beautiful. I just love silkies. I miss mine. Just wanted to tell you how pretty he/she is!♥️♥️
Thank you 🥰 We have had lots of others, these being our first silkies ... & I definitely think they are my fav ❤️

Yeah I still have them seperated physically but not visually. For the last 2 mornings, while I am sitting right there, I have been opening the gate for Mumma to enter the main yard with the other ladies for brekky...she doesn't come out too far, but I can definitely sense some 'pecking order' stuff going on from the others, so I am just far too scared to reintegrate still just yet...but don't know how long before Mumma has had enough of being with this chick 😬

I think I'm going to look for a couple of chicks, similar age/size this weekend to keep my lone chick company in the 'look but don't touch enclosure' & allow Mum back with everyone else 🤞🏼
