The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Tractors do make such work easier! I guess you are stuck with cutting into 16" pieces someone can split and put in a wood stove.
:frow Good afternoon Bruce, have a great day... Yup, the tree is kicking my butt, raising a chainsaw above chest level is a painful thing. But I have it out of the driveway.

What has the tree that high? Resting on its branches? I don't like cutting that high either, too much weight and danger up there.
It couldn't have picked a worse spot to fall. Yes branches are holding it up in a place I can't get to safely. I managed to get enough branches cut away to make the main offender chest high and cut it free. In some cases I was cutting limbs above my head.

Glad you didn't get hurt Bob. That sounds like a lot of hard work, hope you aren't too sore tomorrow.

Thought you guys might like to see how Lucky is doing:

He looks more like a turkey now. He's actually pretty chilled out - it's the white ones that freak out when we pick them up and one of the white ones is so loud!

And here's our beautiful chick, Nutmeg (they are currently in an aviary with a cockatiel pair - they are actually a bit scared of the cockatiels 🤣 ):

And her male counterpart (who still has no tail and isn't quite so beautiful):

Hope everyone has a great week.

I forgot - I had a question for all you bakers of bread. If I was going to do a double batch of my milk buns, could I mix up two batches at the same time or would I be better to mix them separately? My stand mixer could take two lots of batter at the same time, but I'm not sure if it would knead it as well with there being so much more dough?

I've been mixing a batch up every night and leaving it in the fridge overnight to do its first rise, then shaping them, letting them rise again and baking them in the morning and that's been working out really well.

We were also excited today to discover that the finches have a baby. They haven't had one for ages. My daughter was freaking out because she couldn't find one of the adult finches (one that we hand reared so he's a bit special) so I went in there, and sure enough he was tucked away in their nestbox with the baby. It's so tiny. ❤️
