Two more days!

yep July 29.... I was running Windows 7. It was installed on the new computer when Windows 8 was established. on new machines. My install hung though at 99 percent. I tried about three or four times. I am not savvy enough to work through that. I figured it was time for a dust off cleanup and virus check I just included the free Windows 10 in the whole process. They charged me 25 for that install... Well worth it in my Opinion.

I'm not worried about missing the deadline. My son works for Microsoft and wants to get me a new computer for the holidays. He said it would come loaded with that.

My brother is senior security analyst for VA (he made up that title himself) he installed it at home when it first was available and except for screaming about it constantly in the beginning- his frustration has lessened somewhat . He has removed some things he didn't like - I am sure there are tech words for that but No I think he said disabled. He still complains about it 5 days a week on the phone - and on Sundays in person.

windows 10 is worse than windows 8.

they suck up all of your data and spew it into the net.... i like being private!

It is similar to using a smart phone. A lot of things do not work if you do not have things like location tuned on or accessed via google.

You can easily change the privacy settings. Many of them are also turned on with Windows 8. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2971...our-privacy-in-windows-10-piece-by-piece.html

You could of course go with Mac, but I think they have as much of a privacy issue.

Maybe go with linux and no network connection....If you use a PC, you will have to go to the new OS eventually. Win 7 will be at end of life in several years.

My win7 machine (the older desktop DH uses to play his casino/poker games) is a perpetual nag warning that the Vista is no longer supported, I don't care. I have win10 on this laptop and on the main desktop. It is definitely better than 8 but for all my online stuff I just ignore (whatever 10 is calling their browser) and run Chrome.

As for privacy? I turn off what I can, don't let other entities snoop my machine or have my personal info or geolocate me and do what I can to block what I can. If you send me an email you better CLEARLY identify who you are in the headline or I'm just deleting it. I gave up long ago on the idea of complete privacy if I were going to use the internet. Hate it but that's the reality.

They call it Edge and it is terrible. I use both Chrome and Firefox.

Ron if you lived out here and could hand hold me every time I use the computer, I would attempt Windows 10. My son only visits twice a year and mostly hangs out with his old friends. So I can't count on him for total support.

I don't like the idea of him getting me a new computer with 10. But, when he decides to do something(like me) he does it!
