The Sussex thread!

I still haven't figured out who made the mystery egg.  It's large for a pullet egg, but way to small for my hens. (My hens lay giant 2.5 to 3.0 oz eggs.  The pullets generally start out making 1.5 oz eggs.)  So far, this is the only "medium" egg I've gotten.

We had some golden nuggets once an the pullets would lay double yolkers

I will be joining this thread, come this spring.

Story.
We are losing birds, and would like to get, some speckled Sussex.
I have just a few questions.
How good do they lay,and how large?
Are they standard,or bantams?
I plan on making them my buddies,so how docile?
Are they aggressive towards others (as in birds)?
And,has anyone had brooding problems,?

Mine lay medium eggs about four or five times a week
Mine are standard size
They are VERY friendly and docile

(She jumped on my shoulder of her own accord)
I have not noticed them being aggressive to other chickens
None of mine have gone brood yet (9 months old)

I only have a SS rooster, but I can tell you he has been the best rooster in my flock. He is very docile for the most part. There have been a couple times when he gave me attitude. One time I penned him up in a dog crate for 2 weeks because he thought it was OK to spur me when I had my arms full of bowls of food for them. 2 nights in a row. When I let him out of the crate, he has been an angel. I have tried to raise pullets and had no luck (long story) but dog ate most of them.

Ok,so im not getting only about 1 sussex out of the four or six birds wr get.
That kinda attitude is tje kind that don't survive..
