The Sussex thread!

In Australia, these coronation sussex would be genetically lavender. Is that the case there. I notice that someone earlier in the thread called them blue which puzzled me and I wondered if there were any differences.

They're Lavender. Although Lavender is also called Self-Blue, it's not blue.

I do have genetically Andalusian Blue Coronation Sussex, not Lavender.

ETA: This picture is from last month, they're much bigger now.

I breed lights. Here are two pullets from last year when they were fairly young. We are now coming to the end of our breeding season and I have about 80 chicks on the ground for this season. My birds are from a good line, but still need some improvement. Type is good, but no harm in breeding bigger. I'm also looking to improve the clarity of the hackling and the fine white lacing on the hackle feathers. I also need to neaten up combs a bit. It all takes time.

Yes, sometimes, but I'm too far away from you - about 13,000 kms straight across the Pacific Ocean with a few quarantine and customs regulations in between us as well.

(Obviously time to put my location in my profile.)
