I have roots in a very rural area of middle Tennessee. My Granny Whitfield had hanging by her door ( on the outside ) a little wooden box that had a door on the front. In the center of the door was a wooden disk with a rooster carved in it and painted in. It had a poem that I can't remember for the life of me, but you had to twist the rooster sideways to alert Granny you had left her a note. ( if you opened the little door there was a pad of paper and a pencil ). I really want to hear that little rhyme again...
I want to make my own little message box, but I want that exact rhyme I can't remember that was on it!

Have any of you collected an antique or anything along the way with "tilt the rooster" in the poem?
Maybe a German built import from middle 1900's.

What a neat idea. I wonder what happened to your grandmother's box. If you make one, I hope you'll show us pics.
