In the Brooder
I just started my first flock with 6 chicks and 2 ducklings. I have enjoyed reading all the treat ideas but would like to ask a question about grit. I am planning on pulling some grass from my yard to place in the brooderer with my small flock. Will the dirt attached to the grass be enough grit for the little ones, or do I need to buy something from the feed store as well?first and foremost before you feed your chicks treats they need to be on grit. A broody hen would offer up tidbits and they would be eating a bit of dirt from the get go. But if they are raised in a brooder....
Some people put in a clump of dirt with grass attached for them to explore and get flora and fauna. to help their gut...
Some parakeet grit would be useful to add to their enclosure as well.
Once they can "chew" their food then tid bits can be offered.
