My daughter's school hatched eggs (it was a cool process, they candled them, etc.). My daughter convinced me to bring 2 home, which will go to my mom's coop/flock once bigger. But I have no idea where they came from, so no clues on breed or gender!

Cutie Pie aka Winston - I thought she was a black Australorp but her breast is coming in speckled. She's had a tail since she was 5 days old. Very sweet, likes to brood and I think female. Larger of the two chicks.

Duckie - I'm worried she is a he. Didn't start getting tail feathers until around 3 weeks old. Started to get a little comb. Very vocal, but much smaller than the other chick. I've thought leghorn, araucana (before tail grew), or Americana. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Any ideas on what kind of chickens these are? Or gender?

Sincerely,
I'm a Sucker (because my daughter wrote me a persuasive letter and had a long term plan for them)

Look like mixes- but healthy nice markings!

Winston may be a pullet, but Duckie is looking like a cockerel.

May be time to head to the feed store and get Winston a couple of flock mates. They discount older chicks so you can get a great deal and buddies for Winston at the same time!

As stated before (mixes)
Duckie is the cockerel
Please update me on his growth
I had a chick with his exact feathering who was brutally murdered
Didn't get to see him grow

oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear that!

My brother has 4 pullet chicks about 3-5 weeks older than these that will coop with Winston once they move to our mom's house. I agree that Duckie is likely a roo - if that's confirmed he will go live at a local farm. I'll post pics until then!

Update - they're almost 6 weeks now. Still have my fingers crossed that they're both hens but not too optimistic.

8 weeks old now. I'm a little surprised that Ducky's comb isn't getting any bigger. His/her markings have really changed though!

Cutie Pie is super sweet still. She's getting some lacing in her body. Still not idea what either of them are!
