At 8 or 9 weeks they can tolerate any weather. I'm putting mine out Monday at 4 weeks old following advice from other BYC forums, we'll have lows in 50's maybe 40's.

To set minds at ease, my chicks brood outside with heating pad cave brooders, and they wean themselves off heat at 4 - 5 weeks, with occasional frosts at night.

What do you use to support the heating pad? I am using an aluminum roasting pan (I haven't told the chicks what it is!) but as they get bigger, I'm afraid it may collapse under its weight
