Turkey with feathered head

Per a request, I am sharing some photos I took today, of my neighbor's turkey hen. All of their other turkeys, including her siblings, look like regular turkeys but for whatever reason, her whole head is feathered quite thickly for a turkey. I cracked up when she came over to see us! They named her Fluffy. Her dad was a bourbon red and her mom was a ??? mutt hen.

She's so cool! I wonder how common/rare this is for turkeys. Has anyone else seen this pop up?

i think it just has to do with the fact her feathers are black! i've had a couple of hens with crazy face fuzz but they're lighter colored so it looked a lot less dramatic!


budgie here for example has quite a lot! but it's the same lilac as her feathers so it doesn't look as crazy until you're up close!


milk here also used to have quite a bit of face feathers! she's lost a lot of it in the recent years, but i used to call her a werewolf!
