Water glassing or preserving duck eggs -- how dirty is too dirty?

Hi All -- I am interested in preserving some of my spring duck egg production for later. I know how to water glass chicken eggs, but I've always read that the eggs have to be super clean, without dirt or poop. (And unwashed, obviously.)

The problem is that my ducks at least seem to choose the nastiest, muddiest places to lay, so even my cleanest duck eggs will have some spots of dirt on them, and the muddiest ones are appalling. I'm wondering if the very lightly soiled ones would still be OK to water glass? Or is it better to wash duck eggs and oil them and store in fridge?

Anyone have any insights to share on preserving their duck egg harvest for winter months? TIA

I hear you! Ducks are so messy! You can rinse the eggs with warm water and gently rub any debris off. That should do it. If there's still muck on the eggs, you might have to select eggs that look cleaner than the rest until you have the desired amount. I hope that helps!
