Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Alaskan, I wish you had been my father but, you are too young. He had NO patience. Plus if I did something well, he'd praise me. If something I did turned out badly, he would cuss and call me every bad word under the sun. I was never sure which I was good or bad.

One day my grandma(his mom) was talking about him(my father) and laughing about her always telling him he was "dummy, dummy, dummy." I'm sure she set the stage for him being the way he was.
My dad had no patience either.... But I learned a lot regardless... My dad was lazy....I swear to God he had me out changing starters in his car when I was maybe all of 7. And no not helping him...I was doing it myself i thought it was normal. Till I grew up and had to show my friends how to do this stuff.
Yeah it was probably good for me...I just can't believe the stuff that I was fixing at this young age didn't fall apart......:hmm
I always had a extremely high aptitude for mechanical/electrical things. It just dawned on me that I wonder if it was I had a high aptitude or did I get the ability from experience.....? Who knows.
I just know (and I'm really not trying to blow my own horn here,) I've never ran into very many things I couldn't fix or figured out.
Either way it was probably good for me....

Unfortunately most learn how to parent from the way they were parented. Few learn to break the cycle. :hugs
Not me.... My wife and I totally didn't take after our parents.... And we totally enjoyed raising kids. It was the one thing we were both good at.... My wife was the best mother to the boys.... The problems began after the boys left home.... My wife couldn't handle the empty nest (even though our daughter was still home)and that's when she started hitting the bottle.... And she wasn't as great with our daughter......I raised her.
I think it probably has to do with the relationship (or complete lack of) she had with her mother.
I guess if you think about it what mother let's her 15 year old daughter to marry her 17 year old boyfriend.... And that's sad cuz my wife didn't talk to her mother that last 10 years of her life.

My dad was pretty hard on me as well. He didn't cuss me or call me names. But he expected everything to be done right the first time. And at the time It felt like disappointing him was worse for me emotionally than if I had been cussed out. He rarely praised me for a good job. . he mostly told me how I could've done it better.

I'm guilty of being that way too much with my own. I have so many regrets. I wish I could have a do over.
Sorry hon.... :hugs
I have so many regrets too.... Although not about the kids. Yeah unfortunately do over aren't in the cards.

That's what grandkids are for. Plus, when you screw up, you can hand 'em back to their parents to fix.

Can't sleep tonight..... Not all that unusual.
But my hip hurts like the Dickens.... And now my knee is killing me too....I think it's just compensating for my hip though.
Snowing like heck here too..... Funny we left our place up north and we still have quite a lot of snow on the ground..... Got here and the ground was bare...... Now it's snowing here.... But supposed to be in the 50's at home tomorrow.... Driving home in a couple hours.
Only been gone a few days but look forward to sleeping in my heated water bed.
We're at my youngest son's house now..... Kirk Thomas...... Named after Kirk Gibson and Thomas Brookens.... From the 1984 World Series Champion.... Detroit Tigers.

My grandson Carson just loves my little Seven..... And it's so funny just how much my Dogs love hanging with the grandchildren.
Especially since neither of them were raised around kids.
Speaking from my experience, I would say that you’re right about your knee hurting because of your hip. Don’t be surprised if you have knee pain after your surgery as well while all your parts shift back to where they belong.

Carson and Seven are very cute!

We have a neighbor like you. His dad was the same way. There isn’t anything he can’t fix or put together. Very talented. I think your ability is a natural one, enhanced by your experience. The more you work at things, the better you’re going to be at them.

DH is good at mechanical things. I think most farmers are, out of necessity. But some people are naturally more gifted.

Me, I’m mechanically impaired. I’m good at taking things apart, but have too many parts left over when I put them back together. I also didn’t have a dad around to teach me things. My DIL that was raised on a farm had her own toolbox when she married DS and is probably more mechanically inclined than he is.

My daughter is better with cars then either of my boys.... Kacy had no problem opening the hood and at least trying to figure stuff out.... My oldest Jeremy if his Jeep doesn't start... He just calls me from the drivers seat....I never made them help me though.... Except when it was their vehicles. And then it wasn't a lot... Both of my boys I bought vehicles for them when they graduated... Both vehicles needed new engines... They were nice cars but the motors were shot. It saves me a ton of money that way. After we put a new engines in my youngest son's Escort.... He told his mom he was exhausted... And had "no idea how dad does that every day"
