What Bantam breed(s) should I get?

So I am already thinking ahead to the future. I have never had Bantams, since they usually only come straight run. However I have a family member who is interested in taking all the bantam roos if I place an order next late this year or next year. So I may be able to get or hatch some!

I know absolutely NOTHING about any bantam breeds except what they look like! I would need a cold-hardy breed, friendly and docile, decent egg layer, not super broody…2-3 eggs a week in the spring/summer would be ok. And I prefer to not have to broody break all the time. I do love a beautiful pattern but that is the bottom of my priority list!

Any suggestions?

I like bantam Cochins, a lot. They're incredibly friendly and just so gorgeous

They are some of my most friendly. I've got 3 OEGB hens and a Pyncheon hen in one coop and most days I collect 2 to 3 eggs from them. I think once a week I'll only get 1 egg. I thought they'd be really broody, but they're not in my experience.

My mom's OEGB hen went broody last year, & hoarded a clutch of eggs.

@Overo Mare I know you had a sebright rooster, but can't remember if you had any hens. If so, are they good layers for Bantams?

I've never had hens. Just Greg. The actual spawn of Satan.

I'm thinking you should get some Sussexes or Australorp both are good calm breeds that lay 4-5 eggs a week but i don't know about their broodiness

Haha! Agreed. I edited my post right after I realized it They're definitely more for eye candy and brooding. That bantam Cochin fluffy butt is the most adorable thing ever
