I bought a few more chicks at TSC Aug 1st. The bin was labeled ISA Browns. We have 7 of them already and love their incredible egg laying and dog like personality. The just follow you every step. This chick must have been mis-sorted. It is not an Isa Brown. It has 5 toes and very dense feathers on it's outer legs and outside of it's feet. If anyone can tell what it is I would love to know. Some googling says it might be a faverolle. Called TSC and they did not carry that breed. It also has puffy feathers under it's eyes. Almost looks like a mountain man beard. Anyway I would love to hear any ideas. Yes it pooped on the cover.

I do think a faverolles chick - cockerel, hatchery birds are often sub quality as per breed standard of perfection.

Can you elaborate. My only experience is with Isa Brown, Red Sex Links and Buff Orpingtons. This is a wild looking bird and it gets older. Here is the latest pic a few minutes ago.

Can I get another look at this creature. Almost 2 months old. Previous opinion was a Cockerel. If it is he will go to my homesteading neighbor. As he tells me "we don't have pet chickens". He grows them for meat. I enjoy the eggs but not going to lop the head off, clean and eat one. The reason I ask is that it has rounded feathers like my other hens. I have read that roosters have pointy ends to their feathers. Just making sure before he goes nextdoor and then to the table. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against raising meat birds. I just can't do it myself. Here are a few more pictures. The feathered toe is hilarious and the mountain man beard is really coming in.
