What chicken is this??! I must have it. Its perfection!

He is a lemon blue modern game. I don't see anything to indicate a mix. He hasn't been dubbed, which could be throwing some folks off on his looks.

I'm certainly willing to believe that the Modern Game parent in the crossing was a lemon blue. That makes sense. But I don't believe he's pure. Here is a picture of a lemon blue Modern Game:

Modern Game birds do not have black skin.

he is not a pure modern game though he does have a lot in him. the reason he is not pure is due to the fact that he has black skin which modern games do not have and it would have to be introduced from some other black skined breed,

I am not familiar with modern game birds. Would explain what it means to be dubbed please?

"dubbing" means that the comb and wattles has been surgically removed. You can see in the picture I posted of the Modern Game that he has none of either.

There seem to be a lot doubters about the purebred nature, he looks Modern Game to me but I don't know the breed. However, I am revising and adding to my original guess after research to add Modern Game Bantam. I don't have time to copy and post pictures, but here are links to websites with photos:

Feathersite shows Lemon blue and Brown Red pictures with black skin: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Games/Mods/BRKModernBty.html

Here is the UK Club site, initial drawing is the bird we are looking at: http://www.moderngameclub.co.uk/

The only reference I could find to breed standards was on a UK site with drawings indicating that Blues, Brown Red, Black and Lemon Blue have black skin http://website.lineone.net/~alanhiggs/brownred.htm :

I'm sorry, but the research doesn't support this bird being a purebred. The standard calls for Mulberry skin, not black. Mulberry is a shade of red. None of the pictures that you link are true black birds, just mulberry. Also, skin color aside, Lemon Blues doe not have laced patterns on their chests as this bird does.

But, if you truely think that this bird is a purebred, an easy way to check is to post it to the Modern Game thread in the Breeds forum. They are experts there, and would be able to instantly analyze the bird. I think it's definitely worth doing, since this seems to be a point of interest to a lot of people.

As I said, I don't know this breed other than it looks to my eye like a Modern Game. I am not the OP, simply supporting Sonoran Silkies post that it looks purebred to them. We know nothing of the origin of this photo, country of origin included, how it was taken, if filters were used or even if it was photoshopped to alter coloration.

Here is an award winning Lemon Blue from England. The skin may be called Mulberry, but it sure looks pretty dark. Could it look black under the correct lighting or polarization? I submit yes. It also what looks like lacing extending down the chest although I could be wrong. http://www.slimshader.co.uk/mgclubshow07.html

And here is an award winning Brown Red. Skin looks pretty dark to my eye and there appears to be lacing down the front. http://www.slimshader.co.uk/national2011.html Is it Black skin and true lacing? Beats me. Just to my eye the OPs bird original photo is not inconsistent with it being a purebred Modern from England. Am I saying it is for sure? No way. Am I saying that we should not rule it out based on the 'research'? I guess I am unless more data comes to light.

I hope you are not upset by the post, it is not intended to be a negative one. I am trying to learn more about this breed and present more data before jumping to conclusions. In particular, it seems like many times I see folks saying a chicken is a mutt or can't be a certain breed when the bird is from a far away land with different breed standards. Just sayin'.

I hope the OP will come back and tell us more information about the origin of the photo--it really is a stunning bird.

No I'm not offended at all, but I still think it is probably more fruitful to post the picture over in the Breeds forum to get a definitive answer, rather than just back and forth speculation.

I raise moderns, including lemon blues. Lemon blue, brown red, silver blue and other crowwing patterns have breast lacing as is shown on the photos posted by dretd. Gypsy face and dark legs are not the same as black skin. To see if the skin itself is dark you need to look on the body. The wingpit and vent are the easiest areas to see. You will certainly get more experienced feedback in the modern thread. I've had mine for a couple of years.
