I paid $ 10 yesterday and bought a Buff silkie hen who is super broody, the clutch of eggs she is sitting on (with staggered hatch dates-she's an egg theif), plus two of the other chicks which have hatched from those eggs. I wanted her to set some eggs for me which I have on order from a breeder, and the first two babies to keep our lone hatchling company. The eggs/ chicks are from a pen of Buff non-bearded hens, and a White Bearded Roo. What color do you think they might be? Would any of them have breeding potential? Or are they pure bread mutts so to speak? My daughter is starting a 4-H poultry project, and had wanted Bantam Cochins ( but only one from our batch hatched), so I am wondering if these would have any possible breeding/exhibition potential? I have limited space and don't want to many breeding projects going. The kids won't mind if they end up only being pets, and my high speed egg feathered incubator will be well worth the investment.
