It is GOING to happen, it is natural. Wild Jungle Fowl chickens from which all domestic chickens have originated have had the same problem and they survived without someone following them around and cleaning their butt... loll. Even though it may not look pleasant as it builds up, the chickens will dust bathe and preen it off.
