...... Why should animals be killed because they're a nuisance?
Aren't we, the people, really the problem?
Indeed we are...we with our 'living on the land' have driven away apex predators that would keep things like possums and raccoon under control......

So we who have taken control of the landscape and disrupted all that lived on it (including feeding animals with our garbage) must take on the responsibility of the displaced apex predator....and kill the over population of smaller mammals, especially if they are eating our dinner(chicken and eggs).

When I lived in the city the raccoon, possum and squirrel problems in garbage cans and houses were astounding, now that I live in the country, no overpopulation of those animals because the fox and coyotes keep them in check.

Call your local animal shelter. They can provide a trap used to catch dogs in. Maybe your trap isnt working properly. Also I bait mine w/ whatever is smelly and on hand. Usually I just sit an empty can of cat food that I have just dumped the food out of.

From only the first page of hits Googling "Relocate raccoon". Even the animal-friendly organizations don't like the idea,

"...It's a popular myth that the animal that is a nuisance on your property can simply be "relocated."...

"...relocating a raccoon to another location is usually a death-sentence. ..."

I've done all my homework. I know what I can do and can't do as far as trapping and relocating. I don't just toss out opinions. As you stated, relocating a raccoon is USUALLY a death-sentence. The barrel end of a gun is ALWAYS a death sentence and YOU made the decision. If you feel like you're doing what God would want us to do then I'm happy for you.

I won't continue to argue this any further. You're wasting your time if you think you're going to convince me that I would be doing the humane thing by just blowing them away. Ain't gonna happen.

Excellent.
I agree completely it is a bad idea and is more inhumane to the animal. As my grandpa use to say. "there are worse things in life worse than death"

The idea behind this forum is what is the best thing to help your chickens. Just blowing the coons away is the best thing to do if you want your birds to live long, live well, and prosper. Any thing else is just raising chickens to serve as blood sacrifices to the raccoon god.
