What killed my chicken?

When I went out to feed and water this morning one of my chicks was gone and feathers were everywhere. Another had it's tail feathers ripped out. I found the missing chick in the run with no head and a hole where something ate part of the insides. What is the most likely culprit? A opossum?

Sounds like a raccoon to me.

Sounds like a raccoon tried to pull it through the chicken wire. I would change the fencing material to hardware cloth so no predator can reach in.

I agree with raccoon, they have killed many of our ducks and this sounds similar. Sorry I would work on predator proofing some more to prevent this from happening in the future.

Is the run covered?..Almost sounds like an owl?

Probably raccoon or skunk. But it could be opossums or any member of the weasel family native to your area.

I only think an Owl because a Lady that bought two Ducklings from me last spring thought it was a Weasel two weeks ago that ate the head off her Duck..Next morning a Barred Owl was in the pen..
