does that proportion sound right? 6qt feed 12oz bean meal? To get higher than 16% protein. Making sure before I mix a bucket of it. They seem to like this new feed so far, very finely made.Should be plenty of calcium for them.
Hey newbie here. Just wondering what little things I could do throughout the day to help my chickens lay some more eggs, and thats' reasonable. Thanks for any responses! Any help is better than what I'm doing now!
High protien layer feed will help in egg production. I feed 22% layer feed in my feeder and toss a cup of 16% 13-way scratch in the run it a mix of grains corn peas sunflower seeds and oats. I have 5 hens and average 4 eggs a day.
I'm thinking now it's just because it's super cloudy/rainy and theres like not enough daylight……. I've thought grass might helped, but today I've checked and from what I saw because I have 3 hens constantly laying in the nesting box I think I might have as of right when I checked 20 minutes ago like 10. So I guess its just because its winter, daylight, and cloudiness.
What about adding calcium? When the egg shells are too soft the hens can't lay eggs. Oyster shells or crushed limestone always works for us.
