Hi everyone,

We found this canary in one of our friend's garden. But something seem wrong with it....

It can't stopping pecking / bobbing his head? It also seems like he has splayed legs? He can't sit on anything, can hang though.

Can someone help me with this bird and tell me what's wrong with it? I gave him vitamins, agapornis food with seeds he will be able to eat, chick starter and some water.

Can this poor thing eat properly? Splayed legs + unusual movement is concerning. To me at least. I lost one of my bird back in 2021 Feb 28th. I even remember the date. I just loved her so much and I couldn't save her. Splayed leg chick who constantly had seizures. Thought she was getting better. But one last seizure and enough banging her head against the cage made her die. All I can say is, contact a vet, you don't necessarily need to visit one, just contact one. Or contact a canary breeder or someone experienced with canaries. From my part, all I'll say is, please make sure the bird somehow isn't hurting itself. I really hope this bird survives as mine didn't. 💗

It was likely attacked by something or hit a window and has neurological damage. This poor little bird really needs a vet. I recommend calling around to regular vets and seeing if anyone can point you in the right direction.

Worst case you can try to call a few local bird rescues and see if anyone can take him or has advice. Best of luck to you!

If you can't get a vet or a rescue, maybe try and talk to someone knowledgeable on canaries. Can you take out the metal thing that's in there and give it a wood perch?

Goodmorning,

I posted in the Canary Facebook group and Exotic pet vet group and they gave me some good advice :)

I will go check on him/ her in a minute!

Yes! I posted in the Canary group on Facebook and exotic pet vet groep!

They also told me to get the metal bar out, I don’t have anything in wood that’s suitable :( but they told me to just leave it out…

I’m not sure if we have bird rescues that will take non wild animals. I’ve never heard of it before, I’ll look some up! Because I can’t keep him either way. My cats would go bonkers and so would my dogs.
