I was wondering if anyone knows when a good time to put eggs under a broody hen in New Hampshire and Vermont? My hen would hatch them outside in a barn. I know the temp changes a lot here so I just wanted to know what others did.

Thanks!

The beauty of a good broody hen is that any time is a good time to set eggs -- I have had hens hatch clutches in November, December, January, etc both in the mountain region of Idaho (lots of winter weather there) and Indiana (plenty cold, believe me)....and wouldn't hesitate to allow them to set during those months in your location either. A good broody, provided appropriate housing and care, can very easily hatch and raise healthy chicks in very bitter weather.

Thanks. I'll think I'll try it sooner now knowing that they can hatch them out even in the cold.

Thanks so much!
