So my 2 recents ducklings were right on time. My first one externally pipped early yesterday and second one not too far behind. As you can see my one hatched just fine thru the night and this morning but my other egg did a second external pip this morning in a different spot and still has not begun to zip? I am kinda worried. Welcome to the flock little Jelly Bean (we named that one because while in the egg it jumped around like a jumping bean. Thanks

It can take 24-48 after external pip to hatch
Usually first pip then 8-12 hours later a second hit close to the first then up to 36 more hours before they come
I can’t tell where the 2 hits are
Also I mark my air cells so I know if they hit inside it. If they hit outside the air cell the time increases to 48-72 hours as you add the internal 24 hour time frame if they miss the air cell
As long as baby has air tbey are usually just fine
Some take longer abc some are faster

You can wet that membrane and look different veins
If baby is stuck you can make the zip and pull the cap off bang may need a little help pulling more shell off to push out
But if you see veins it’s not ready yet
Do tiny bits at a time
Don’t rush

So the baby came out with some assistance but it’s been like this since 6:00 pm EST I am worried it’s not going to make it. I cannot take it if it dies

Did baby have any yolk left to absorb ?
Assisted babies can take longer to get up moving around
Can you explain his hatch
Was there any blood ?
Was he stuck with egg goo at all ?
You can feel his body if he did have dried goo it’s like cement and can prevent them from moving around
If baby had any yolk left to absorb they will often stay laying down
Can you take a picture of his belly area
Also check his vent that he doesn’t have dried goo blocking him from going to the bathroom

No yolk left, but was stuck looked as if the membrane was stuck to baby in some spots. Baby seems better today but baby is not moving around too good and seems to have spraddle legs but not all the time? We tried bandaid method it was nightmare then tried hair tie and straw method same thing disaster. Baby seems to walk fine on carpet, washcloth, us but not in brooder?
