Ahhhhhh you’re absolutely right. I also got a (younger) whiting true blue that day. She looked like a chipmunkI think you might have a Silverudd's Blue there, instead of a Whiting True Blue.
Whiting True Blue are supposed to have pea combs. That bird appears to have a single comb (which is right for Silverudd's Blue). Either one could be that splash color, and either one should lay blue eggs.
I agree with the other posters that it is female.
