Why are Columbian Rocks so rare?

Sorry if I posted in the wrong section but I was wondering why Columbian Plymouth Rock chickens are so rare in the United States. In Canada I know you can get them at many hatcheries. At our nearest hatchery, Rochester, you can get them by the hundreds plus. They are also, in the catalog, on the generic dual purpose page. The aren't very expensive either, just the same price as most of the other breeds. In fact, breeds like Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex are more expensive than Columbian Rocks.

So what makes them so rare in the States?
 
Several reasons
1) Probably because the Columbian variety requires dedicated breeders to keep the color pattern correct
2) white is always more popular and an easier color to maintain
3) Not many breeders in the US are aware that Rock Columbian are an option.
