Why do fake eggs ( golf balls, etc)

Get chickens to lay? Created a fake nest and they seem to be laying now. Well, only twoso far, but........


Anything ese I can do?

I think it is because chickens when left to their own devices create nests of two dozen or so of eggs before they start brooding them.

So if there is already a spot with "eggs" in it they will be drawn to laying their eggs there for future brooding. I think it is not so much getting them to start laying but letting them know where to lay.

It worked like a charm with our 14, 8 out of which are now laying @ 6.5 mo old.
