Wild bird seed for chickens

Is it ok to give your chickens wild bird seed as a daily treat? It has the same ingredients as my scratch grain but it also has white millet, wheat &the black oil sunflower.

I don't see why not. As long as it is not their only source of food, a daily treat shouldn't hurt them.

My chickens love it. I feed them wild bird feed every day as part of there diet. It is really good for them. I think if they could wag there tails for it, they would!!

My older (2 yr olds) hens will come to the wild bird station to find the seed
put out for the flying transients!!!! But that is because they "know" it is
there.

It is not a preferred diet for egg layers, but don't tell them that!
The protein level is not high enough for great egg production.
My wild bird seed is ±10%
Black oil seed = ±16% (served straight) but they do love it.
Layer crumble = 21% (I get the meat maker, so it's not a layer)
Dry Cat food = 30%

I give the free rangers a bit of all of the above for my peas,
since they require a higher protein content. The chickens are adept
at finding what is put out in different places....
There are just no bugs for the birds right now,
so I figure all could use what they find....

Of course only as a treat. They rush to the bag as soon as they hear it. Just like the meal worms. Lol

Of course! The ingredients aren't really any different than in any other scratch. I use it for my tiny bantams because they are too small to eat the regular scratch for a treat. Like everyone else said though, I would not use it as their only source of food.
