New to the hatching process! How long after a duck starts to zip does it fully hatch from the egg? I know it can be a range but wasn’t sure what the range was. (Also not sure if I’m using the terms right but I mean once the duck has fully made a hole in the egg not just a pip)

Thank you!!

Duck eggs can take 48-72 hours to hatch after pipping (internally). Once they've started to zip it should be out of the egg in only a few hours. If it's only made the hole bigger and has not started rotating down to create the zip, I'd still consider it to be in the pipping faze. Is your baby making yawning or chewing motions?

As silverbirds stated, the pipping stage can take over 48 hours for ducklings, however the zipping stage should only take a few hours.
The first external pips are not necessarily the beginning of a zip- usually they will make one pip, then one or two more in the same area, opening a small hole. Then, when the duckling has absorbed the yolk and the veins are receded, they will begin to rotate in the egg and leave a long line of pips all the way around the shell.

Ideally, once they begin to zip, they'll be out in 1-2 hours.
If the duckling is making chewing or yawning motions with their bill, it is likely that they are still absorbing their yolk and are not yet in the true zipping stage.

My little duck has been stuck like this for 18 hours now, pushing constantly only taking short breaks that I have seen. Is there anything to do? My other ducklings hatched in less than an hour.

The baby has made a small hole through the egg. It looks like he is making little chewing motions. We can also hear little peeps. We just worry because it looks like he/she is pushing so hard but the little hole hasn’t gotten bigger and it has been about 18 hours

Chewing motions means he's still absorbing the yolk and not ready to hatch yet. Give him more time.

It doesn't really look like it's zipping yet, to me- 18 hours isn't too long for the pipping stage.
Is that a bruise on the shell around the pip? It looks like the shell is darker there.
@New duck mommy 2021 is very knowledgeable with hatching, I'm sure she can give her opinion/advice if around

But for now I'd recommend sitting tight, watching and waiting- it's normal for ducklings to take their time!

The chewing was during the first couple hours not after the 18. We finally decided to assist after 20 hours because the feathers looked dry and the membrane had darkened. And we cracked opened the shell and there was absolutely no movement in the duck. I believe we were too late. I wish we would have helped earlier.
