Very helpful thanks so much for providing your results and suggestions. It did help me make the switch and my girls are looking great laying well (for winter in MO) and the coop smells better Cecal poos seem less prevalent than before and don't smell as strongly.

Thanks for a timely review. I have only had one loss so far spraying with permethrin and vanilla. We tried lemen grass essential oil it seemed to help too but is pricey so was discontinued. Here are the best deals I could find for permethrin and vanilla. note this is a high concentrate of permethrin and is why it's a deal could make about 8 gallons of 1 percent permethrin solution I will be using 2 percent myself. most prays are between 1.5 and .5.

It is somthing that has to be well thought out before hand I agree. Even as a hunter I struggle mentally over killing my chickens for meat. But it helps to remember that every chicken I eat of my own is one that WASNT inhumanely raised and processed. Mine get treated with the utmost respect right up to the table. And that means alot to me knowing this bird had a decent life, and death. Of course there are always the few that get named and have endearing personalities that make them family. Pets. But I think that just means I have a decent soft heart inspite of my ability to kill things for food. Thanks this was great food for thought.

This is somthing we are starting to come to terms with. We have decided that some with unique personalities that have earned them "named" status will live out their days with us as cherished pets. And some of the other "good Girls" (what I call to gather them for lock down and just a special treat) will be gently and humanely killed and eaten. We already have a plot for special friends who have passed. And when I stop at it and remember it rarely fails to get both a smile and a tear. I think this writer gets all of that. Well written! and timely.

Guess we are not the only crazy chicken people that have long conversations with barred rocks and yes thay are great talkers and conversationalists. Can tell you are a loving chicken parent. You sound like me fand the wife whenb we talk about our fluffy butts mommas lil red hens pretty girls and favorites. Ladies etc. many terms of endearment and yes When I let them out I always warn the Rooster that it is his watch now and I"m holding him responsible for th eladies.
